Ask most women about buying a suit off the rack and you'll hear the same story. The jacket fits the shoulders but gapes at the bust. The trousers fit the waist but pull across the hips. Or everything fits except the sleeves, which hang past the knuckles. Women's ready-to-wear is cut for a narrow range of proportions, and most bodies sit outside it somewhere.
A tailored suit solves that by starting with your measurements instead of a size label. Here's what women's tailoring looks like at our Gold Coast studio.
Drafted for a woman's frame
Women's tailoring isn't a men's suit made smaller. The pattern has to account for the bust, the waist-to-hip ratio, the slope of the shoulders and the way you move. We draft every women's suit for the individual: darts and seams placed to follow your shape, a jacket that closes cleanly without pulling, and trousers or a skirt that sit right whether you're standing in a meeting or sitting through a long day.
What we make
Trouser suits for the office, the courtroom and client-facing days.
Skirt suits with a pencil or A-line skirt, cut to the length you prefer.
Blazers and separate jackets that work over dresses, knits and jeans.
Wedding and event suits for brides who'd rather wear a suit, mothers of the bride and groom, and wedding guests who want something memorable.
Pricing for women's suits is quoted at your consultation, because the style and construction vary so much. Plan on 4–6 weeks from your order.
A suit for Gold Coast workdays
Professional women on the Coast deal with a climate that doesn't care about dress codes. Walking between a Southport office, a Robina meeting and a client lunch in Broadbeach in January is not the time for a polyester blazer. We work with natural fibres, mainly Australian Merino, which breathes, resists creasing and keeps its shape. For the hottest months, a half-lined jacket and a lighter weave make a real difference.
A practical tip: a well-fitted suit in navy or charcoal can be worn as a full suit, as a jacket with a dress, or as trousers with a knit. One good suit does the work of several cheaper ones.
Suits for weddings
More and more brides on the Gold Coast are choosing a tailored suit, whether for a beach ceremony, a registry office wedding or an evening change. A suit can be as romantic as a gown: soft ivory or blush cloth, a sculpted jacket, a wide-leg trouser. We also make suits for bridesmaids who want a modern alternative to dresses, and for mothers of the couple who want something polished that fits properly.
The process
Consultation: a complimentary conversation about how and where you'll wear the suit, and what hasn't worked for you before.
Measurements and cloth: full measurements and posture notes, then choosing your cloth, lining and details.
Fitting: we refine the balance, sleeve and length on your body.
Collection: your suit, pressed and finished. Your measurements stay on file for next time.
Already own a suit that almost fits?
Sometimes the answer is alterations rather than a new suit. Taking in the waist, adjusting the sleeves or hemming trousers can transform a suit you already have. See our guide to what's worth altering.
