Where you can get measured for a suit
A tailor's studio. The best option. Your tailor takes full measurements and posture notes, then uses them to make your suit and checks them at a fitting.
A suit retailer. Staff can usually find your off-the-rack size, which helps you buy a suit but won't give you measurements for a made-to-measure one.
At home. Online guides exist, but self-measuring is easy to get wrong. A centimetre out across the chest or shoulders shows in the finished jacket.
What a proper suit measurement includes
A tailor measures far more than chest, waist and inside leg. Expect measurements of your neck, shoulders, chest, waist, seat, arm length, back length, thigh and rise, plus notes on your posture: whether one shoulder sits lower, how you stand, and how you carry your weight. These details are what make a tailored suit fit differently from a standard size.
How to prepare
Wear a well-fitting shirt and trousers similar to what you'll wear with the suit.
Bring the shoes you'll wear with it, so we get the trouser length right.
Stand naturally. Don't hold your breath or stand straighter than usual.
Tell us how you'll use it: desk work, standing all day, dancing at a wedding.
